Young People's Philharmonic & Junior String Philharmonic
Since 1976, the Young People's Philharmonic of the Lehigh Valley has provided aspiring, young musicians a rich supplement to their musical experiences. Under the direction of Jerry Bidlack, the Young People's Philharmonic consists of approximately eighty-five committed string, woodwind, brass and percussion musicians from middle and high schools across the Lehigh Valley.
For younger instrumentalists, the Junior String Philharmonic, under the direction of Nancy Bidlack, consists of approximately fifty Lehigh Valley middle school musicians. Both orchestras perform semiannually in venues ranging from Lehigh Univeristy's Zoellner Center for the Arts to Allentown Symphony Hall. Throughout the year, both orchestras also perform a number of area school and community outreach concerts.
Membership in the orchestras is by audition, generally held in mid May. Rehearsals are held most Tuesdays, 6:15 til 8:30pm, September thru April, at the Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Performing Arts located at 675 East Broad Street in Bethlehem, PA.
